"The husband of Sally Villanueva, the Overseas Filipino Worker in China who is meted a death penalty for drug smuggling charges, strongly believes that her wife is very innocent of drug smuggling charges.
Hilarion Villanueva said that he had never thought nor seen her wife’s illegal activities particularly drug smuggling. He also believes that her wife is just a victim of drug syndicates who want to use innocent people to continue their drug operations.
He said he pities her wife for being used as drug courier without her knowledge and now she is about to be executed by the government of China.
“Naniniwala ako na inosente po ang aking asawa kaugnay sa kaso niya ng pagdadala ng droga sa China,” Hilarion said. (I believe that my wife is innocent on the case of drug smuggling to China.)
Hilarion said her wife’s recruiter just lent her a luggage to be used in going to China as a tourist and promised that after five days of expiration of her tourist visa she will already work in China.
The couple never thought that there are drugs inside the luggage that was lent to her by the recruiter. It was only found out by the Chinese airport authorities upon inspection that the drugs were concealed in the walls of the luggage."
