Court case affirms existence of E. European street gang in Rancho Cordova - Sacramento News - Local and Breaking Sacramento News | Sacramento Bee: "In a case nearly two years in the making, Sacramento prosecutors have achieved what appears to be a California first – a conviction that affirmed the existence of the region's first street gang made up of Ukrainian and other immigrants from Eastern Europe.
Three of four charged defendants have been convicted on their own no-contest pleas. Most important to local prosecutors and the Sacramento sheriff's deputy who worked the case, one of the four admitted that he beat up a man on behalf of the so-called 'White Rock Park' gang in Rancho Cordova.
Defense lawyers in the case strongly denied there ever was any such outfit. They said the four men and their friends were just a bunch of guys who hung out, got drunk and caused trouble. If there was a gang, the lawyers said, it was invented by local law enforcement officials.
Police and prosecutors say as many as 10 Ukrainians with a Moldovan or two mixed in acted in concert when they terrorized fellow Eastern European immigrants in their Rancho Cordova neighborhood and along Sunrise Boulevard's fast-food strip a few years ago"
