Assange victim of 'smear campaign,' says advocate - CTV News

Decision Points Assange victim of 'smear campaign,' says advocate - CTV News: "founder of WikiLeaks has a lot of enemies right now, but at least one journalist has decided to stand up in defence of Julian Assange, saying he is the victim of a massive 'smear campaign.'
Assange, an Australian citizen, has been arrested on sex crimes allegations and is fighting extradition from London, England to Sweden.
In recent weeks WikiLeaks has released over 1,000 classified cables, many of them containing embarrassing private conversations between diplomats and officials. The organization plans to eventually release over 250,000 cables.
Despite Assange's arrest this week, WikiLeaks has continued to release documents. Wednesday's batch contained detailed and potentially embarrassing conversations leading up to Britain's controversial release of the Lockerbie bomber.
Sharron Ward, a documentary filmmaker and journalist who founded the group Justice for Assange, said he is being persecuted for his efforts to reveal the truth."
